The Kent Island Yacht Club, on the eastern edge of Kent Island, south of the Kent Narrows Bridge, can be reached from the US 50/301 exit 41 by land. By water, with the Chester River to the north and Prospect Bay to the south, casual boaters and cruisers find a tranquil, hospitable haven easily accessible from the Chesapeake Bay.
The Club dates to 1956. The clubhouse on Buckhorn Peninsula at Kent Narrows was opened in 1957. During the fifty years of its existence, membership has grown to over 1,000; a marina has been added and expanded; the clubhouse has been expanded and improved several times and has been rebuilt by its members after a disastrous fire and flooding from Hurricane Isabel.
KIYC is the home of Maryland's first Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe Racing Team which competes throughout the Eastern Seaboard and annually hosts the Kent Island Cup Race.
Yacht Club members, their guests, and members of other yacht clubs enjoy the beautiful grounds, the marina, the clubhouse and full service restaurant, as well as a full calendar of year round activities that range from casual to elegant.
